In drum dryer a feed containing dissolved solids or slurry carrying suspended solids forms a thin layer on the outside surface of a rotating drum. The rotation of the drum is adjusted in such a way that all the liquid gets vaporized and a dried thin layer can be scraped off with the help of adjustable knife in the form of flakes, granules or powder depending on the nature of the dried product. The product gets dried after water / solvent gets evaporated due to internal heating of the drum.
The selection of feed mechanism depends on properties and nature of feed solution. Normally following types of feed mechanism are provided in the heating main drum with following options.
- Bottom dip Feed.
- Bottom tray with applicator roller.
- Overhead applicator rollers.
- Top side tray.
- Double Drum with nip.
